Opening email attachments
Previous  Top  Next

If you do not think you have not received a license registry file click here.

If you have been sent a license registry file (these have a .reg extension) by email then this will appear as an attachment to the main message. If when you try to open the attachment it is disabled or 'greyed out' then you will need to change the security options of your email software to be able to install the license. The method used to do this varies in different email software but an option will be present in the options screens.

For Outlook Express users:
·go to the Tools Menu, select Options, then select the Security tab
·uncheck the "Do not allow attachments to be saved or open..." checkbox
·click Okay and you will now be able to open the attachment to this email

Important note:
Unless you are a computer expert you should turn this setting back on once you have imported the license. This will help protect your computer from suscpicious files. You should never open any type of file from an unsolicited source.

Alternative method
If you do not feel comfortable making these changes and would simply prefer to type in the license details, click here.

Other information: Why has the attachment been greyed out? Is it a virus or dangerous?
No, it is not a virus. No, it is not dangerous. The attachment has been disabled by your email software because when double-clicked a license registry file has settings that are imported directly in to your Windows system registry. If the file had been created and sent by a malicious user this could damage the setup on your computer. As such some types of files like program files (files with the .exe extension ) and registry files (.reg files) are treated as potentially harmful by some email software and cannot be opened unless you expressly change your security settings. This does not mean all files of this type are dangerous, but unless you are a computer expert it is best to assume that unsolicited files are harmful.
