Perudo and Perudo Santaba

Welcome to FISA. As Perudo comes back into fashion we've had a lot of visitors asking what the difference between Perudo Santaba, Perudo, Liars' Dice, Liari, Dudo and Cachos is. Well the answer is not much really; they're all more or less the same game and share the same basic rules. If there is any difference, it is that Perudo Santaba is a slightly more advanced version of the game with additional bids and a little more protocol - its a bit like the relationship between chess and draughts, but not as exaggerated! Whatever you want to call it, Perudo Santaba can be played by all ages and skill levels. In fact, like all great games, Perudo Santaba is very easy to pick up - but very hard to completely master! The best way to learn how to play is to read through the basic rules, then just start playing. You can download FISA Perudo Santaba MP 2004 Edition right now for free and you can study the advanced rulebook here.

About FISA

FISA was established in Rome in 1857 by a small consortium of professional dice players and was founded with the following aims and principles:

  • to promote the game of Perudo Santaba worldwide
  • to establish and cultivate an international Perudo Santaba community
  • to create and maintain an international Perudo Santaba players league

About Perudo Santaba

The origins of Perudo Santaba (pronounced San-tah-bar) can be traced back to the ancient South American game of Liari (pronounced Lee-arr-ee) meaning "liars' dice". The name Perudo Santaba itself, literally meaning "without truth in one's pocket" was coined in colonial times when the game became popular in the Spanish admiralty. The modern FISA tournament rules have changed little since they were first set-down in 1858 but some modern bidding calls have been added, most notably the call of 'Teknorav' (after the great Latvian player Beanise Teknorav) in 1933. Modern, simplified variations of the game include Perudo (a game now available in box sets) and the version favoured by the benighted brains of Wall Street, Liars' Poker.
